The Best Places in the Bedroom to Position Your Bed

Your new bedroom design has piqued your interest. You’ve painted, chosen your furniture, and gathered all of the finishing touches. The only thing left to complete your room’s comfort, coziness, and restfulness? Where should the bed be placed? We’ll show you how to arrange your bed for a more pleasant night’s sleep, from the centre of the room to right next to the window.

THE CENTRED BED

The optimal location for a bed is usually in the middle of the room’s longest wall. The bed, being the most significant piece of furniture, should be the main point, and this placement places it front and center.

Placing the bed in the middle of a wall helps to focus the space. It also leaves enough room on either side for bedside tables, which is both practical and creates a sense of balance. When it comes to decor, putting the bed in this position gives you a lot of options. Make the most of the available wall space by adding a lovely ornamental headboard or a great piece of wall art.

However, there are a few reasons why this design might not be feasible. The noise from water or gas pipes running up the middle of the wall may affect the quality of your sleep. Similarly, if the longest wall is near to the door, the bed can form a visual barrier, thus ruining the room’s attractiveness.

THE CORNER BED

Fireplaces, windows, built-in wardrobes, and radiators are all unique and functional characteristics that might influence where you put your bed in a room. Consider putting the bed in a corner if wall space is restricted and you don’t want it to be immediately beneath a window.

You may do this in a couple of ways: slant it so it sits across the corner, or tuck it in so two edges of the bed are touching the walls.

This positioning of the bed ensures that attention is not drawn away from any other potentially eye-catching furniture or decor that is centered on the room’s walls. If you have a large bedroom, you may also create a bold statement by positioning the bed at an angle in the corner.

A corner bed, on the other hand, is tough to get properly since something needs to give. There will be wasted space behind it if the center is slanted. To counteract this, add a drape, fabric, shelf, or screen behind the bed to help ground it.

If the bed is against two walls, it indicates there is just one open side, which might make getting in and out difficult for those sharing a bed. This arrangement can work nicely in a child’s bedroom with a wooden single size bed.

THE BED OPPOSITE THE DOOR

The link between the bed and the room’s door is crucial in feng shui. It’s thought that lining your bed with the door creates bad energy that drains your strength at night.

Instead, position the bed diagonally across from the entryway so you can see the door clearly. However, make sure it isn’t exactly opposite the door, as this can give the impression of vulnerability.

If you have no option but to place the bed near to a door, add a bedside table with a fashionable bedroom lamp and other decorative things to create a positive atmosphere.

THE BED AS AN ISLAND

Consider utilizing your bed to create a “island” in the centre of your room if space is limited and you want a unique bedroom plan. Despite the fact that it appears to contradict all other advice you’ve heard, the island bed has its benefits. No walls make it easier to go in and out of the room, as well as make the bed, and it creates a smooth flow throughout the space.

Add a headboard or lay the island bed on a patterned mat to make it feel more grounded. This arrangement will require a lot of area, so if you are short on space, this is probably not the best option for you.

THE BED UNDER THE WINDOW

There is some disagreement over whether or not to put your bed next to a window, with the overall consensus being that it is not a good idea.

This is because it not only blocks the view of the outdoors, but it also allows cold air to sneak in on a chilly night, making for a miserable night’s sleep. Light sleepers should also be aware of the natural light that enters the room when the bed is located near a window, since it can be a source of distraction. Alternatively, put the bed next to the window so you may relax while watching the sunset.

However, sleeping near a window is sometimes inevitable. If the window is on the opposite wall from a feature such as a lovely, original fireplace, positioning the bed towards it might help to create a sense of calm and serenity in the space.

If you must place your bed in this position, there are several ways to design it to make a gorgeous bedroom focal point. Make sure the drapes are hung high and broad enough to cover the entire window, and choose a low headboard to allow as much light in as possible.
